Volunteer for the Refugee Youth Project

1. Weekday tutor.
a. As a weekday tutor you will attend the tutorial once a week and work one-on-one with a refugee for two hours. Duties will include following a simple lesson plan, engaging small groups in academic games and art projects, and helping an individual child with homework in a variety of school subjects.

b. As a weekday tutor you must commit to tutoring once a week for two hours.

c. The 2006 schedule for the weekday tutorials is as follows:

i. Monday 4:00-6:00 p.m. Location TBD
ii. Tuesday 4:00-6:00 p.m. Location TBD
iii. Wednesday 4:00-6:00 p.m. Location TBD
iv. Thursday 4:00-6:00 p.m. Location TBD

2. Member of an RYP committee.
a. As a committee member you will attend bi-monthly committee planning meetings. The committees that currently exist and meet on a regular basis are:
i. Special Events Planning Committee
ii. Curriculum Committee
iii. Volunteer Outreach and Support Committee
iv. Publicity and Fundraising Committee

b. As a member of an RYP committee you must commit to attending and participating in the meetings on a regular basis for a semester.

3. Weekend and Special Events Volunteer
a. As a weekend and special events volunteer you will chaperone weekend and special events as needed. Duties will include monitoring children and being responsible for a small group on field trips.

b. As a weekend and special events volunteer you must commit to attending at least two special events a semester.

4. Provide a specialized training session or workshop to the participants of RYP.
a. Ideas include teaching the children how to knit, health training, cultural sensitivity trainings, special art projects, exercise classes, or any special skill you have to offer and wish to share with young refugees.

1. Limited internships are available with the IRC and RYP

Donate to the Refugee Youth Project

Donations are gladly accepted! We are currently seeking donations for the following items:
1. Art supplies
2. School supplies
3. Children’s and Young Adult’s Books
4. Healthy after-school snacks
5. Transportation to and from special events
6. Tickets to local cultural events and institutions (theatre performances, museums, local bus tours etc.)
