New Beginnings in Baltimore: an RYPxCosmic Boys collaboration

Spring 2018 (Susan Tuberville)

This mural is a collaboration between Refugee Youth Project high school participants and Brazilian muralist duo, The Cosmic Boys (Zeh Palito and Rimon Guimaraes). RYP artists worked with the Cosmic Boys to concept and then paint this mural. The imagery symbolizes six hopes the RYP artists vocalized for their life in Baltimore: safety, freedom, education, a bright future, love, and peace. The text in the painting incorporates Arabic, Tigrinya (a language spoken in Eritrea), and English, the three languages spoken by RYP artists who contributed to this project. This workshop was made possible by Urban Walls Brazil (Annapolis, MD) and Michael Owen Art (Baltimore, MD).
