Moira Fratantuono

Over 70 students from two RYP sites worked collaboratively to create six mosaics that are permanently displayed at the Baltimore Resettlement Center (BRC). The curriculum was designed to help youth consider their own experiences coming to America, talk about services their families receive at the BRC, and create artwork that would welcome incoming refugees. Participants created their own designs for the following themes depicted in the mosaics: Community, Welcome, Love, Culture, Family, Home. With Ms. Fratantuono’s assistance, students collaborated to create a layout for each design, place the tiles, and grout the final mosaics. In addition, all of the students painted tiles that pertain to each theme. Supplies for the project were made possible by the Walters Art Museum and a grant from Susquehanna Bank.
