Millbrook Community Garden

May 2009 (Moira Fratantuono)

Meskhetian Turks, who attended a former RYP site, spent the spring semester creating a vegetable garden at their apartment complex. Students participated in every aspect of the garden’s creation, from tilling the soil and building fences to watering, weeding, transplanting and direct seeding. This project served as a bridge between student’s home culture, where many of them lived and worked on farms, and their current lives in Baltimore. The garden became a place where students shared stories and aspects of their home country while hard at work!
