March 2013 (Jaimianne Amicucci)
Global Perspectives, a two-year project, helped refugees in Baltimore explore their cultural identity and connected them to the pottery traditions of their home countries. RYP students participated in interactive workshops, led by Jaimianne Amicucci, a Curatorial Practice candidate at Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA). During one workshop, Ms. Jenny, a parent of a participant, was hired to teach students how to make traditional Tanzanian vessels. A culminating exhibition was on display at Baltimore Clayworks in March 2013 and represented narratives and artwork of international ceramic artisans along with work created by RYP teens.
